“Oh no!”
lol
wow this is classic, hope he joins the heat this yr wit Bron and wade
Penny was the reason why I played basketball.
A truly classic performance.
Does anyone have the entire game 3 and 4? And even the ones played in Miami for that matter.
Much props to my man, Penny for still having the heart to ball in spite of all the injuries and eventual degradation of his once mad game.
In Penny I ALWAYS trusted!
@aph83 YEAH 2000 WAS THE WORST
@infinity999ful
it was ironic, read more carefully next time.
2000 is the worst of the last 3 eras gone.
@aph83 what great teams did the sixers meet in 2000s? are you on crack?
Of course he hand-checked, but unlike his peers & those who’ve followed in the yrs to come, he didn’t RELY on it because he didn’t NEED to. He physically OVERWHELMED guys on ‘D with his freakish athleticism.
I seem to recall him playing pretty solid defense as a 39-40 yr old man as a wizard. EX: he scored 32 on Pierce & HELD him to 14 pts on 11/7/01, as well as scoring 21 on him, and holding him to 12 on 10/31/02.
When’s the last time U saw kobe hold pierce to 12 & 14 pts?
And so what if kobe’s the only 1 on that list with 10+ yrs, his on-court production didn’t SIGNIFICANTLY pick up until AFTER the def rules changed
That’s what U keep trying to NOT acknowledge..
It’s NOT a coincidence that kobe’s BEST scoring season was the SAME year the new rules went into effect, or that the # of wing players in the Top 10 in scoring, JUMPED from 3 to 11 in the following yrs, while experiencing a 23% INCREASE in scoring & a 4% INCREASE in FG% LOL!!
U wonder how MJ would hold up playing ‘D on wing players in this era? SMH..
“The influence of North Carolina’s Dean Smith on the NBA, for example, is [profound]. Smith [taught] a [generation of players] the [importance] of defending [without] fouling. Under Smith, Jordan became a [ferocious defender], but one who [did it] with his [speed instead] of his [hands].”
– David Aldridge, TNT basketball analyst; “Rules changes have affected defensive philosophies, April 23, 2009
That says it all..
Now U put shooters & scorers like Reggie Miller, MJ, Clyde Drexler, a primed, pre-injury, Penny Hardaway & Grant Hill, Latrell Sprewell, Glen Rice, Steve Smith, Dominique Wilkins under defensive Rules that allows for SO MANY shots inside of 15 ft & a ABUNDANCE of FT attempts that we have as a RESULT of the changes to the def rules & how fouls are called today, U can tack on a 8 to 9 MORE pts to their ppg avg LOL!!
Mitch Richmond avg’d 24ppg for his career & avg’d 21 the 1st 10 yrs of it LOL!!
CBS Sportsline keeps a shot chart of EVERY guys FG attempts per game that are coming INSIDE & OUTSIDE 15 ft & the FT line
Look WHERE the majority of these guys pts are coming from
% of pts scored INSIDE 15 ft or FT line
Tyriq Evans: 82%..714 pts on layups/dunks
D-Wade: 75%..762 pts on dunks/layups
Carmelo: 71%..652 pts on dunks/layups
Durant: 70%..602 pts on layups/dunks
LBJ: 68%..754 pts on layups/dunks
Kobe: 66% (2/3 of his pts)..460 pts on layups/dunks
B. Roy: 63%..346 pts on layups/dunks
So what if he wasn’t the #1 option? He STILL was guarding them! This was his shortcoming on the DEFENSIVE side of the ball..
And I seem to recall that kobe avg’d MORE shots & mins per game in the reg season & playoffs than Shaq from late 1999-04, so please cut the damn excuses! Not to mention, Shaq’s presence got him MANY of open looks due to him being the #1 target of the opposing defenses, not kobe, which is a LUXURY those other guys DIDN’T have & they STILL outscored him LOL!!
Labradford outscored MJ in “1 game”, not in career match-ups. But take a look some of those alleged inferior perimeter players from MJ’s era that outscored kobe in career match-ups as he “guarded” them
Mitch Richmond – 199 to 72 (including 32-7 in ’00) & held him to 36% shooting
A.I. – 702 to 630
Gary Payton – 592 to 586
Dominique – 84 to 40 (past his prime)
Joe Dumars – 64 to 32 (past his prime)
J.R. Rider – 192 to 183
Rex Chapman – 175 to 163 <— LOL!!
So much for your argument LOL!!
He didn’t guard nique? SMH..man U kids today are fuckin idiots. I take it U never saw Come Fly With Me, when Isiah discusses how those battles when MJ & Nique quote: “routinely [guarded] each other”..hell the video is right here on YouTube!!
And pippen DID NOT consistently guard those guys, MJ did! The VISUAL evidence is right here on this site!! And that SAME alleged 1-dimensional Allan Houston outscored kobe 294 to 274 in career match-ups, not to mention, he scored 53 on him in LA in 2/03
The Majority of the SG’s were 6’4? Wow..U repeatedly keep showcasing your ignorance. NBA . com’s avg height chart of players over the years will debunk that lie. And U stupid kids keep claiming he never guarded the other teams best guard, just FURTHER highlights how uninformed y’all are about him, and only reveals that you’re knowledge about this subject comes from watching the LATTER part of his career.
Go see MJ’s defensive resume in the yrs B4 pippen or when he wasn’t even starting..
There weren’t many tmac, melo’s or LBJ’s?
What was Dr. J, Dominique Wilkins or Clyde Drexler? What was a PRIMED & pre-injury Penny Hardaway & Grant Hill? What was Latrell Sprewell? What was Glen Rice or Steve Smith? What was Mitch Richmond or Allen Houston?
U guys kill me with that bullshit! MJ comp was JUST as formidable, if not more!
And speaking of Reggie Miller, he not only outscored kobe in the ’00 Finals, but 39-12 in the last game they ever matched up (Mar 18th 2005), and he was OLD!
There were as many big, strong, fast & athletic wing players in the 90′s as there is now! Prior to the def rules changing, ONLY 3 wing players avg’d at least 24ppg. That # jumped to 11 after the change! That’s why they’re puttin’ up those #’s!
A 39-40 yr old MJ in 2 yrs of play, went out & put avg’s that are virtually IDENTICAL to kobe’s career avg! Now imagine a PRIMED MJ vs HANDICAPPED perimeter def rules that allows for A LOT of FT attempts & shots under 15 ft!
He’d be even DEADLIER LOL!!
As I look at this game, I’ll pose this question to ALL of the “kids” here on YouTube:
I thought y’all said that there WEREN’T any big, strong, fast & athletic perimeter players (except MJ & Pippen) from the 90′s? LOL!!
I see these kinda’ DUMB ASS implications being made from SO MANY of y’all on this site LOL!! Here U have VISUAL evidence to disprove that claim LOL!!
@pennyccw thank you for this vid. this is one of my all time favorite games
@chiladin
duh! what facts were you referring to? pacquiao is the most awarded fighter in history, and the awards were carefully decided and selected him from every other boxer in the world.. These award bodies, are all boxing authorities and obviously smart and well researched..this video is made by a floydiot schoolgirl… so who is telling the truth and who’s lying? pacquiao wil not only KO floyd, he will beat him badly!! If floyd is brave enough to step on the ring with him
@aph83 magic went to the finals in 09 but that has nothing to do with discussion penny was far gone at that time, anyways u like penny, I like Iverson thats it, Penny was my hero when i was REAL small but I just gravitated more towards iverson’s game once he hit the league nothing personal against whom u like or against penny he was a great player as well
@smoove82 for you the greatest moments mean to score 40pts…yeah so true. sixers met so great teams in 2000 era playoffs… magic went to finals in 09 whereas all starting five was way better on each post in 95. don’t want to be a part of those poorly discussion on youtube
thx
@aph83 4 u to say iverson was selfish when he was the ONLY offensive threat on his team is preposterous, Larry Brown built the team that way he was following the orders of his coach and he always top 5 in pts, steals and assists, 4 u to take away from his greatness for having great individual numbers is crazy, Penny was great but he was no Iverson his greatest moment was the 2 40 pt games against Miami and they LOST that series
@smoove82 i think shaq would not play with this kind of selfish player. his shooting selection is…fucking horrible. i bet you love the toronto-philadelphia series from 2001…just laughable. nba level was just bad since 1998 i should give you some of my games…
@aph83 well I bet if u put iverson with shaq in his prime he woulda had better results than penny did, Penny had potential he was soft tho he aint had no heart, Iverson had to carry a whole franchise for most of his career unlike kobe and other players he never played with another great player when they got to philly they were old, and when he went to nuggets the west was loaded
