Mark Cavendish — “I’m just the guy who puts my hands in the air…” “It was a hard stage actually, up and down all day long. It was incredible to win today, you’re not going to shut me up — I’ve got a lot of talking to do and I missed out on saying all of what I wanted to yesterday. “It was harder than what most of us expected it to be. Special mention to a couple of guys on my team, Maxime Monfort and Bert Grabsch, we had to give Kanstantsin a rest today because he’s got work to do in the mountains for Mick Rogers. It was a long, hard slog for our guys but they rode incredibly well. They kept the gap down and then it was a case of everybody jumping in at the end. “We knew it was going to happen, we knew it was going to be a tactical last climb but it played in our favor a little bit because it stopped us having to follow the chase at the end and we were able to just infiltrate into the lead-out. That was good, it was different to what we normally do. “I just followed Mark [Renshaw] as usual and it was just a case of finishing off the incredible work that my team-mates did. “We’re a team and I’m just a part of what’s functions like a great machine. Yeah, I’m just the guy who crosses the line with my hands in the air… but that’s the goal of cycling, to display the logo sponsors. And we’ve got to figure out the best way to do that and one way is to win bunch sprints. I’ve got to finish off the work that they do, and it’s an incredible machine to be part of. “I don’t …

do you have idea if what gearing combination he use in his sprint

Cavendish goes at 70kph… lol xD
theres only one sprinter who can keep up with cavendish and his name is usain bolt!!
there arent enough top end cyclists from the island to make an olympic cycling team…
you need to remember the total population of the island is 80,000..
we do have allot of good cyclists compared to our countries population…but not enough to make an olympic team.
He rode at the Commonwealth Games for the Isle of Man, but he rides for Team GB at the Olympics the same way that riders from Scotland do. Anyway why would he want to ride at the Olympics, or even the worlds for an Isle of Man team? This is a rider who wants to win, and with an Isle of Man team he would be reducing that chance. No offense to them or anything but he does say in his autobiography that he only knows 3 riders from the island who would last the neutralized zone at the TdF
It’s not a matter of pedantry it’s a matter of geographical fact. The isle of man is not part of great britain. That was the point I was making, you seem to be confused about what I was saying.
I’m from Jersey which is also not a part of the UK or Great Britain, but is a part of the British Isles like the Isle of Man. If i were racing at International Level i would be representing England or GB the same as Cavendish…Get over it, that’s how it works…
Holy hell, nice job on the pedantry. For all intents and purposes, he’s a Brit, get over it.
I didn’t say the IOM was an independent country, did I? It’s a Crown Dependency, and, as I stated, is not part of GB, England, the UK, the EU, the Commonwealth, the UN, and so on. The IOM and other crown dependencies have special relationships with those bodies, but are NOT members of any of them. I don’t mind them calling him a ‘Briton’ as a general cultural term, but he is not FROM Great Britain. He’s from Ellan Vannin.
But if the isle of man was an independent country, then why dont they have a team at the olympics? Wouldnt he then not be allowed to race for Britain as hes from another country?
he also has a british racing licence, and raced in the british road race championships, so doesnt that make him a briton?
and you done need a passport to enter the isle of man….
Well done, you’re very observant. He can hardly compete for the Isle of Man as they don’t have a team in the Olympics.
he is riding for gb in the olypics……
‘this young sprinter from great britain’ – er, no, he’s from the Isle of Man, which has never been part of Great Britain, or the UK, or England.
