It’s about time! I am a Kansas City native and lifelong baseball fan and have been eagerly waiting this World Series arrival on dvd. Ive collected many other World Series releases and this is – for me – the big one. Growing up in the 80′s and in Kansas City being able to watch the Royals come so close so many times in their 70′s rivalry with the Yankees and then with their loss to the Phillies in the 1980 sereis, to have the Royals along with George Brett and so many more win the championship meant a lot to so many. I am very happy to see this release finally happen as it is probably the most remembered World Series of the 80′s, or if not, it at least started the trend of memorable series’s throughout the last half of the 80′s decade as 85-89 are some of the best. (86, 87, and 88 are already on dvd, so after this release I’ll still be waiting for the 1989 A’s/Giants earthquake series which is also another personal favorite). Of course here you have, at least to me, two extremely great teams The Royals and The Cardinals with some exceptional players – future hall of famers like George Brett and Ozzie Smith, rookies like Bret Saberhagen and Vince Coleman, veterans like Frank White and John Tudor and so many other fondly remembered players and coaches. This world series is incredible and should be remembered for so much more than the infamously botched call in game 6. I could rant on forever about both teams and their rosters but I wont – just check it out for yourself. This was a great series with two similar yet totally different teams – and teams unlike what you would see today. Its Howsers Royals vs. The Cardinals Whitey ball! – DVD note- product description lists 7 dvd’s so there apparantely wont be any ALCS games included in this set – as for special features – as of this writing there arent any listed, but these A@E sets usually have some – but Im excited enough either way, at least we’ll have all 7 games in their entirety. (Fans should also consider looking for a copy of The Thrill of It All – The 1985 Kansas City Royals year in review video, which was released on dvd a few years back and released exclusively at Kauffman stadium in Kansas City – it would be another great addition and is an awesome, fun watch and look back at the Royals and the I-70 World Series)!

This was the first World Series I actually watched and followed when I was a kid. Kansas City battled back from being down 3 games to 1 twice (ALCS and WS) to win it all. A truly great series that is sadly only remembered for Don Denkinger’s blown call.
