In part 2 of this 3-part series, UFC fighters Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Gabriel Gonzaga, Marcus Davis, and former Marine Brian Stann continue their visit to Marine Corps Base Quantico. Pausing for a moment to reflect at Manion Hall, a building named in memory of one of Stann’s close friends, 1stLt Travis Manion, they moved on to the Marine Corps Obstacle Course. After struggling through the physical and mental challenge of this demanding experience, the fighters listened with rapt attention as a Marine instructor told a story illustrating how the Corps instills character in its elite warriors. Marines train for combat how often? and for what? most of the time 4 years…. Most UFC fighters practiced some sort of martial arts sense they were 5 then on top of that one they train and master 3 or 4 kinds of martial arts for hours a day every day… its there job… if it was bare knuckle and no ref ppl would most surely die in the ring or cage. So fight with UFC guy and marine guy with fists UFC dude would most surly win… now weapons is another story.

UFC fights and the marines learn the same martial arts (muay thai,BJJ,Boxing,wrestling,karate,etc.) the difference is that MMA fights
fight in a ring and the marines are trained to kill.

@lopallis Probably not, we don’t use them often in training, wearing the flak during conditioning isn’t so much about the weight, it has more to do with getting used to physical activity & mobility in it as well as the increased difficulty in breathing during physical activity while wearing a flak.
