Tihs is the first day of the 2 day tournament including the winning fish. Most of this was shot from the starting boat at the beginning of the tournament as the boats lined up then took off. There were 104 teams and the largest tournament of the year in Baja. The winning fish was 383 pounds and is the largest tuna ever RECORDED in Baja history and only 5 pounds short of the world record. www.reefari.com Giant Trevally Fishing Madness, and this is only a couple of the fish caught, Caught about a dozen quality GT’s(Giant Trevally) on lures just swimming around the Boat, and a Nice spanish Mackerel to top it all off, Unreel fishing and perfect weather tucked in behind the Great Barrier Reef. Giant Trevally love the surface action of poppers and stickbaits, looks like a baitfish in Distress and Giant Trevally can’t help themselves, awesome action and surface strikes, especially in glass calm conditions such as this day. Reefari releases all GT’s, too good a fish to catch once, and they pull like nothing else. One of the toughest fish in the ocean, and once hooked you will be too. Recommend the best gear you can afford and at least 50 lb braid, with the 80 lb and 100lb common. Giant trevally definately take some stopping!!! Please subscribe for more great fishing action, tips and news, Cheers Greg Also check out our webpage for more info on how to catch Giant Trevally at http

hold camera still please.
I’d say the Giant Trevally, heaps of grunt, But Spanish Mackerel have faster runs,
cheers Greg
Which was harder to fight?
Top Spanish Mackerel, wouldve gone at least 25 kg’s, got a few that day, plus some good Giant Trevally,
Cheers Greg
nice mackerel
I like to use a double in the braid, either Spiderhitch or Bimini twist, then an albright with the double onto the mono leader. Usually run about 100 – 150 lb Mono leader for Giant Trevally, about a metre or more, but not too long that you cast through your guides, will weaken and undo the knots with repeated casts.
Cheers Greg
@Reefari what knots do u tie for your 100 mono leaders?
On our mackerel lures we run wire, but with poppers for Giant Trevally, 100lb mono is usually enough
Cheers Greg
@Reefari have u ever used a wire leader? i do cause u never know whats goin to hit your lure big wahoo or tuna.i lost a huge GT.using a mono leader got in some rocks..
Good fun with all giant trevally released,
cheers Greg
BABAAA
This one was on a three day trip out to Trogibee Reef, out past Kindemar Reef, off Mackay, some great Fish, including several Giant Trevally and a Monster spanish mackerel, About 75 nautical miles out.
Cheers Greg
were is that
Works at times for Giant trevally, will get cod and coral trout more on your deep diving lures. Best bet is to work the reef edges with poppers, working it off the shallows into the deep and you will get more Cod and Coral trout on the edge as it drops off into deeper water, do this drifting or motoring along slowly, Good fun and a great way to work a fair bit of country
cheers Greg
@Reefari Ah I see. iof you do troll around reefs, do poppers work with coral trout or cod?
Can Do, Trolling poppers with lures is a great way when fishing new ground or reef edges, and can help in finding where the Giant trevally are holding, recommend running the poppers down the side closest to the reef or structures, as Giant trevally will hold in nice and close,
cheers Greg
Can you troll poppers etc?
