@ikashibimauler – I just set the downrigger counter to zero when the release clip is at the surface. I always run the baits above the depth I am marking the fish, so I am not too worried about getting thing perfect. I have 12lb balls (I love saying that!) and am not to worried about trees, etc – they smash thru pretty much everything.

Great videos and techniques. Do you set your lowrance’s keel offset function so that when you put your release at water level, it correlates to your graph’s zero, or do you just zero out your downrigger when your release is at transducer depth? I know it isn’t a big thing, probably just a foot or two depth difference between the chart and the release. If anyone wants to get totally anal about exact depth its a little trick that can help.

@Lewis542 Michael was using an Ardent xs1000 (from the USA)- the Black reel.
Scotty was using a Surecatch Ghost ssg2000. Surecatch reels are available pretty much everywhere in Aust.
