Detroit Tigers Fantasy Camp / Shot Heard Round Detroit 2of2

For a few years, I attended some great baseball fantasy camps in Detroit played at Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park. In 2004 I attended a week long camp in Lakeland Florida. The camps are organized by the Tigers and feature former players to make it even more fun. The camps are a blast. My friends were always asking me to show them the videos and photos I shot so I made these video recaps. Part 1 features clips of the weekend camps at Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park plus the week long camp in Florida. It should give you a good idea of what your get to do at the camps. Part 2 is a “documentary” of a now famous homerum that I hit (or didn’t hit) at Tiger Stadium. I was able to interview several former Tiger alumni and have them recap the “Shot Heard Round’ Detroit”. Interviews include: Lance Parrish, Ernie Harwell, Kirk Gibson, Bill Freehan, George Kell, Jim Price, Dave Bergman, Steve Kemp, Mickey Lolich, John Wockenfuss, Dave Rozema, Frank Howard, Milt Wilcox, Dan Petry, Jon Warden, Tom Brookens, John Hiller, Jason Thompson, Rod Allen, Jim Northrup, Willie Horton, Darrel Evens, Frank Tanana and capped off with Tigers President and GM Dave Dombrowski offering me a contract. If you’re a fan, you’ll enjoy it. At least I hope you will.

AWESOME! LOL! What a great time! Personally, I would have probably DIED of JOY being that close to Willie Horton!!!! He was always my favorite. Well, next to Ty Cobb ;)

Well done. More enjoyable to view while the Tigers are in first place. There were some people on the video I hadn’t thought about in a while. Steve Kemp fits in that category. Been a while since I had thought about Jason Thompson. Great to see John Hiller. Actually looked up his stats within the last week or so. After Zumaya and Rodney blew one, I posted comment asking if John Hiller was available. Willie Horton did chat on Tigs official website a few days ago. Got one question into him.

Paul, that was one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on Youtube! I don’t know how you got all those old Tiger legends to talk, but they were great playing the part. It was nice to see what those guys looked like now. The Frank Howard and Kirk Gibson scenes were my favorites.

Off subject: Actor Tom Selleck, he of Magnum, P.I. fame, once cranked one into the seats at Tiger Stadium.

haha love it…i hate driving by Tiger Stadium every day, less and less of it during the demolition.

  16. Veramacor says:

From what I remember, Lance Parish got the story half right…

The pitcher had a 100+ mph fastball that Paul swung at, foul tipped it, then hit the upper deck facing BEHIND home plate, bounced off, rebounded back into play, and soared over the left field fence.

There was a dent in the facing, no birds were present as Lance stated. Just a shower of crusty bird shit that fell upon both Barker and spectators.

Come on Paul, it was with an aluminum bat; can you really count that. Went to Tiger camp in 2006 and 2007. Now I travel with other Tiger campers attending tournaments. If you want some info, let me know. You seem like a nice guy. Great job.

  18. czarofsoul says:

No, the stadium is still in tact behind home plate. It was all steroids. lol

  19. yourdetroitsportsbar says:

It looks like camp is a lot of fun. I hope to attend one day. Question… Was the part of the stadium behind home plate already torn down to help you get a little extra wind behind you on “The Shot heard around the world”? Maybe you should be checked for steroids? LOL!
