Slideshow of the 18 mile canoe race from Kailua Kona to Honaunau Bay. Many of the pictures were taken from the SPIRIT OF KONA catamaran which transported paddlers & was used as a docking station to lesson the impact on Honaunau Bay. Other Liliuokalani videos coming soon will include 1) Dolphin Escort to Honaunau Bay, 2) Lilio Double Hull Slideshow, 3) Wahine Pre-Race, 4) Lilio Race from the Sprit of Kona Video, 5) Kane 18 mile finish video. For those lucky enough to live on the Big Island, check out the listings for Na Leo o Hawaii ( Channel 54). A 30 to 60 minute video will air in 3 or 4 weeks. Also there was a camera man from Ocean Paddler. He said about 8 minutes of the race will show on OC16 in about 1 month. It was fun meeting everyone on the boat!! Aloha, Gary

    haha go buy a kite and i bet you wont go faster than hydroptere . i do understand your point but they really are different thing

  2. bollox05 says:

    @mylexusis True, but after purchasing your kite, board etc, you still have enough money left to buy a house with a private beach, a couple of cars and may a small plane, and you still went faster than Hydroptere……

  3. badback22 says:

    Whatever theyre trying to do that is a beautiful ship. It must be quite a baby though they were workin hard it seems. Ill have to watch some more of these. I stopped reading about sailing when the Cats started to make it big.

  4. mylexusis says:

    @knieto12 i think the hydroptere is far more impressive than the kite record its a usable boat that can sail in real conditions , the only way a kite gets at all impressive speeds is in a dead flat man made ditch . wait for enough wind and a giant beach ball will beat the kite .

    SALUDOS: Los dos flotadores tendian que estan bien en proa

    BUEN NORTE.-

  6. moviesforrandy says:

    nise that is fast. wind and solar is the future.

  7. LibertaerUeberAlles says:

    That would cut a swimmer right in half :-O

  8. knieto12 says:

    @LC4Rally that speed was achieved as a 500m average, those are the rules. The true “feat” is that this was done with a $2500 rig vs. a multi-million dollar POS that they have been pouring money into for years. Sebastian and Rob just throw their shit in the car after they are done shattering records.

  9. LC4Rally says:

    @ritter1808 An accomplishment no doubt, but he went about 100 meters in a man-made ditch. In many sailors’ view that has to be less a feat than 50+ knots on the open water.

  10. ritter1808 says:

    Rob Douglas and 9m kite just killed this record (55.65 knots).

    kite surf beat you!

  12. agrophobiac says:

    @scratchy996 thatś why it flyes not why its fast

  13. KernowCODProductions says:

    What was the wind speed?

  14. kulminaator says:

    @phycadelicpotatoduck

    you should look up how sailing works … yes you can go faster than the wind.

  15. TheGodFisher says:

    @phycadelicpotatoduck yeh it was, its called apparent wind :)

  16. tommygola says:

    very very cool

  17. phycadelicpotatoduck says:

    was that thing going faster than the wind?!!!

  18. nallepuh6969 says:

    I consider this the future of transportation.

  19. JUKIO01 says:

    man, imagine having this in water world? lol, you’ll be king of the ocean

  20. Boscotrips says:

    Jesus fucking christ that’s intense.

  21. scratchy996 says:

    @alexmanru , check out the Bernoulli Principle, it’s simple 6th grade physics.

  22. alexmanru says:

    @brukt123 Thanks a lot!But it is unbelievable !’! If it is true, than a wind generator turbine must spin twice faster than wind speed it self.. en-light me please. I am beginner in windsurfing, and I’m not sure if i had experienced that phenomena, I was planning some times, is this a same thing?

  23. brukt123 says:

    @alexmanru
    the boat can go faster than the wind speed because it isn’t pushed by the wind, but rather driven by the difference in pressure on the back and front of the sails, caused by the curved shape.

  24. alexmanru says:

    I don’t get it: You are traveling with almost 100 kph, the speed of wind must be at least 100 kph too!!! Right?Theoretically and practically you can’t go faster then a speed of wind. What was the speed of wind?????

  25. HIHIMIII56 says:

    @ravohbm Questo e il futuro.

  26. GaryTrow says:

    Thanks!!! yes I’m a smart old guy. How else would I get my picture taken with the pretty wahine from New Zealand. Maybe I’m just lucky ? Got a nice picture during double hull race on Sunday. Yeah, I’m just a lucky old guy.

    Great job for an old guy!
