@horselover101x For this video the presenter is using a basic snaffle bit to show several training aids and procedures. Most young horses are started out in a snaffle bit.

  2. horselover101x says:

what kind of bit are you using?

@autumnobuchowski hahaha! yeahm it works great! my latest analogy was: problem with riders these days is that they learn how to ride but they dunno zit about how a horse works! it’s the same as a pro mountain biker who doesn’t know how to tune his own bike’s breaks or get a loose chain back in place! he’s not gonna get far before breaking himself or the bike! (or both)

I love these videos, I can’t wait to try them on my horse, that I’ve been wanting to get western for quite some time.

I have been using that bike analogy for years. I always got some cross eyed looks for it to. Today is the first time I have ever heard anyone use the same bike analogy as me.

Gary and Monte are excellent teachers. The instruction they give are sound and solid. Very laid back and plain spoken, they stress repetition, patience, and above all respect.

  11. jengacrock says:

Gary and Monte are very good teachers. Notice that they are not nervous but relaxed. This always helps the horse. Also the key both say is repetition! I used this technique on a 3 year old and it worked great. About 2 weeks every day for about a hour and a half , it was automatic for him. Please keep these videos coming. Thanks Gary!

This was so helpfull I am going to try this on my new mare!!

  13. tjjanszen says:

Absolutely fantastic, will be out tomorrow trying it on my new Paint mare. I have only just picked up my mare so still learning all her quirks but how do you get a horse to calm down and stop playing with the bit? Its like she has ants in her pants and struggles to stand still…what woud you do?

  14. englishwesternrider says:

    great teacher!!!

  15. ropefast says:

It´s simple, pull direct rein to your hip, as soon as he gives you his head…release, do it both sides…..he will become more and more flexible with time and repetition.
