Catching a Gippsland Freshwater Spiny Crayfish

www.spinycrayfish.com Euastacus Kershawi, Gippsland Freshwater Spiny Crayfish are wide spread throughout the south eastern parts of Victoria. Around the Bunyip state park are some good water ways like the Bunyip river, Tarago river and Latrobe river. Long and short-finned eels can be a problem when freshwater cray fishing they will compete for the same bait. Eels were present throughout the day due to the heavy rain overnight. With a little patience we caught the first for the day.

The Tully River is famous for its rapids, but its also a freshwater fishing paradise. Giovanna drives the Toyota Rav 4 from the hills above Port Hinchinbrook to the banks of the Tully. ET and Giovanna then canoe upriver with local fisho Roley Newton and young anglers Liam and Dylan. The speedster sooty grunter and their cousins, the scortum fish, are attacking hardbodied lures around the snags and rockpools.
