Daniel Puder, born on October 9, 1981, first made a name for himself in high school. Puder finished first place in his weight division in the Central Coast Section amateur wrestling. He accomplished this while wrestling with a broken hand. The wrestling mat wasn’t the only location where Puder began demonstrating success despite the odds. As a high school student, he began his entrepreneurial career by starting several successful businesses. Puder has never been one to settle for average in anything he does. He sought out the tutelage of MMA amateur wrestling legends Frank Shamrock, Brian Johnston, Danny Chaid, and trained at the American Kick Boxing Academy in San Jose until 2008 when Puder moved to Los Angeles and started training under the TOP MMA Heavy weight coach, Eric Paulson. Whether it’s in a business meeting or in the ring, Puder has the same attitude: Success, Heart, and Improve. He has MMA competition records of 8-0 (PRO) and 20-0 (amateur). The fight was allowed to reach the final bell with the judges awarding a split decision win to the 5 Rings fighter. At this stage Brewer remains undefeated with a 6 and 0 record. The Russian martial art of Sambo was developed in the first several decades of the 20th century, in the wake of the Bolshevik Revolution and the fall of the czarist regime. A martial arts training program within the Bolsheviks Red Army produced a new hand-to-hand combat system derived partly from traditional Russian and other native regional wrestling or grappling styles and influenced by various foreign martial arts, notably Judo and Jujitsu, as well as the traditional Olympic sports of boxing and Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. The new system was dubbed Sambo (sometimes written Sombo or SAMBO), which is an acronym of the Russian words Samozaschita Bez Orujiya, or self-defense without weapon. From the beginning, Sambo has been a constantly changing system, adapting itself to fit the needs of its fighters, from soldiers on the battlefields of World War II to crime fighters on the streets of Moscow. Today, Sambo is practiced in three distinct ways: as a competitive sport, as a self-defense method and as a lethal combat system employed by police and military forces. Sometimes incorrectly referred to as Russian Judo, Sambo was recognized as an official sport in 1938. It was included in the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 as a demonstration sport, though it failed to gain the popularity necessary to become a competitive event. Driven by the phenomenal success of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) bouts on pay-per-view television, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is now the fastest-growing sport in the United States. As its name suggests, MMA combines techniques of various other fighting systems, including boxing, jujitsu, wrestling, judo, karate, kickboxing, kung fu, and taekwondo. Decades after a Brazilian fighting style known as vale tudo (anything goes) began to spark local and international interest in the late 1920s, MMA burst into full-color in America in 1993, with the formation of the UFC. Financed by the Semaphore Entertainment Group, led by New York music promoter Robert Meyrowitz, UFC bouts began more as violent spectacles than sporting events, with fighters from various disciplines battling it out in the same ring to the delight of bloodthirsty crowds. Rorion Gracie, a Brazilian living in California, organized the first fight and designed the trademark arena, the Octagon. Aside from three simple rules—no biting, eye-gouging, or fish-hooking (placing your finger in an opponents mouth and pulling backwards—the UFC prided itself on no-holds-barred fighting, with little regulation.
