Believe in Trapattoni’s system says former Spanish International Mendieta
Former Spanish international, Gaizka Mendieta, believes Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s style of play is critical to the Irish becoming successful at Euro 2012 this summer. Mendieta, element of the Spanish squad that defeated Ireland at the World Cup back in 2002 says while Ireland wouldn’t be employed to Italian style play, he believes Trapattoni is the correct man to lead the Green Army into the European Championships. The former Valencia player was speaking in Dublin at a UEFA Euro 2012 Carlsberg occasion. The Bilboa native, who ended his career at Middlesborough in England, hopes to be in Poland this summer when Ireland take on planet and European champions Spain in Gdansk The final time the sides met, the now 37-year-old settled it with the winning penalty on a dramatic day in the Planet Cup in Suwon, South Korea, but he believes a massive work is necessary to push Spain so close once again.
