Michael Jordan 1989: 50pts Vs. Milwaukee Bucks

A classic MJ masterpiece. Jordan in his prime was beyond electric. The Bucks were in town and the Bulls were battling them for the 5th seed so this was a must win game with a playoff atmosphere. Enter Michael Jordan. Playing a cool game through quarters 1-3, MJ took over in the 4th with 26 points in a blur for a comeback win at the buzzer. Going for 50pts while shooting a typical 16-26 for 62%, MJ also took in 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals for another stunning, all-around game with a miraculous ending. His usual array of creative drives opened up his mid-range game which then opened up his driving game – as if he needed that. When the chips were down, MJ’s mythical presence once again cast its giant shadow. There is no 6th or 7th gear like Mike’s. A most amazing stat was that MJ was shooting 55% for the year this deep into the season for 7th place in the NBA in FG% while scoring 34.2 ppg. And no, that’s not a typo.

1971 NBA Finals: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Baltimore Bullets

The 1971 NBA Finals was the played at the conclusion of the NBA’s Silver Anniversary season of 1970-71. The Western Conference Champion Milwaukee Bucks, who were born just three years earlier, swept the Eastern Conference Champion Baltimore Bullets in four games. Baltimore had dethroned the 1969-70 NBA Champion New York Knicks to get to their only NBA Finals appearance (as a Baltimore based franchise). This would be the last time that both participants were playing in their first NBA Finals until the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat got together in the 2006 NBA Finals.

Allen Iverson 18pts vs Milwaukee Bucks 08/09 NBA

With Richard Hamilton sidelined, the Detroit Pistons abandoned their three-guard lineup and used a bigger starting unit that stifled the Milwaukee Bucks. Tayshaun Prince scored nine of his 19 points in the decisive third quarter and Allen Iverson added 18, lifting the Pistons to an 87-76 victory Saturday night. The Bucks had won three consecutive games, averaging 106 points during the streak. The Pistons, starting 6-foot-9 Amir Johnson in place of Hamilton, a slim 6-7 guard, held Milwaukee to 30 percent shooting. “Everything got started because defensively we were very good,” Detroit coach Michael Curry said. Johnson had eight points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, giving the Pistons a different defensive look from their usual lineup that consists of 6-11 Rasheed Wallace as their only big starter. The Pistons acknowledged after the game that they are better defensively with Johnson on the floor, and better offensively when Hamilton and Iverson are on the court together with guard Rodney Stuckey. “When we have the bigger lineup, obviously we’re better defensively,” Prince said. “It’s kind of pick and choose. “Sometimes you are going to need the offensive side, but more importantly you’re going to need the defensive side.” The game was tight until Detroit went on a 27-5 run midway through the third quarter. Milwaukee missed 14 of 17 shots during one stretch of the period, trailed 73-55 after three quarters and never got close again. “We’ve been good [defensively] in

Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers

On Twitter: @longisland495 Milwaukee’s media is probably less than the entire Yankees press corps by itself. The Milwaukee Brewers have inked a deal to land star pitcher Zack Greinke (formerly with the Kansas City Royals). The Brew Crew recently emerged as a contender in the Zack Greinke Sweepstakes which turned out to be a “poor man’s Cliff Lee Sweepstakes”. Other prospective outlets included the Texas Rangers in case Cliff Lee spurned them… …which, of course, he did. Some out-of-control New York Yankee fans wanted The Great Greinke as a consolation prize for them swinging and missing bad on Cliff Lee. One problem: The Great Greinke prefers to be great without a lot of press following him around. Greinke has had social disorder issues in the past, which does not bode well if you want to play in New York City. You can run and hide from people and the press in Milwaukee, not in Gotham. The deal works for Greinke from a baseball standpoint as well. Greinke is moving to the National League, where pitchers thrive more than they do in the American League. This is, obviously, on account of this strange thing called the Designated Hitter. No DH in the NL, of course. Milwaukee is trying to provide a boost to a pitching staff that will now have him as their ace. Yovani Gallardo was very good as well with his 14-7 record and an ERA around 3.8. They also have Shawn Marcum and Randy Wolf. Wolf is old, though. Some people don’t know anyone on Milwaukee’s starting staff. CC
