On October 27, 2009 I went shark fishing “again” for a few hours to try to catch another big sharks before they leave the San Francisco Bay for the season,,,,,, And on this day I caught this Bat Ray.,,,,,This Bat Ray in the video was caught then released as the video shows,,,,,,,,”PEACE”…

this is a good sized bonnethead shark, which is a type of hammerhead, that i have ever caught. he is not the longest, but he is the fattest and maybe the strongest. i wasn’t able to get a safe grip on the back of his neck, because of his size. this type of shark doesn’t get much bigger than this!!! we were fishing on a beautiful day unlike last weekend!! i caught him on a whole squid that i caught the night before in my cast net probably 12″ with tenticles!!

Gus & I go kayak fishing in the 10000 islands of south Florida, and I hook a good-sized blacktip shark. One of my concerns, is that beginning kayak fishers will read the reports that I write, watch the You Tube videos, etc., and get the impression that this is an established sport, and that anyone with a kayak and a fishing rod can go out and do it. I do not mean to give that impression. Fishing for shark, tarpon, amberjack, cobia, etc. from kayaks is NOT for the uninitiated. There are real risks, and real dangers involved. Sure, it’s exciting, but it is “extreme kayak fishing”. When you go after these species and other large species, you are dealing with an apex predator that is capable of putting a real hurt on you when things go wrong. You need to know the risks, and be prepared… and even then, things can still go wrong. Local Line Burner fishing magazine writer ‘Sharky’ Shane Down swam with a dozen Tiger sharks and Bull sharks which were feeding on a sperm whale carcass which drifted in from the Pacific Ocean and landed on one of our local outer reef systems on the Great Barrier Reef. ‘Sharky’ can be seen riding the sharks and gets within inches as they gorge themselves on the carcass. It is totally amazing footage and shows sharks feeding in their natural environment.
